speed kills

Description

This was supposed to be an illustration for a company called SOS ( symbols of speed ). I'll tell you guys some exciting news about the company in a few weeks! But I had fun throwing down color. I found an old car pick and played around in PS a bit and there you have it.

It's a bit much in a lot of ways but fits that market place well. I'm going to try to get a little more illustrative in the next one. The BG is a combination of two backgrounds that I was working on. Neither of them really had much impact on their own but by accident I fused them both together in layers. Otherwise, I would of probably trashed the drawing altogether. PS is a wonderful tool!

For the figure I have been studying a lot of Adam Hughes and I really like the way he handles light and shadow. Especially on mid-sections and legs. Great shapes that intersect one another, etc. He's always an inspiration. I mean, if you look at the outline of her mid-section it's really quite simple. But the color adds so much volume and it's instantly "all there". Figuring out where light would hit and bringing it out puts it all together and suddenly - bang - a semi realistic mid-section arises from nowhere.
